Paramount and Dreamworks Pictures today released the first look image of Scarlett Johansson in Rupert Sanders’ Ghost in the Shell live action film. Production is now underway. The story follows a female special ops cyborg (Johansson) who leads a fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization called Public Security Section 9 for Hanka Robotics. The unit is devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, who will stop at nothing to destroy Hanka’s advancements in cyber technology. There’s not much to go on because production is currently underway in New Zealand.
Here you can see they got her hair perfectly. Now I’ve had my gripes with this and still do, but I’m letting them go to come into this film with open eyes and ears. I still have my questions….mainly, what’s her name going to be? Are they really gonna call her Matoko Kusanagi….or just simply…Major. Maybe they’ll give her a different last name. It still would have been awesome to have an Asian female lead, but Scarlett Johansson is pretty awesome so I’ll watch it with an open mind. The film costars Michael Pitt and the Zatoichi himself Takeshi Kitano. I’m excited for this and I hope Rupert Sanders pulls this off so we can finally get the Cowboy Bebop movie I’ve always wanted. The film will release March 31, 2017.
