Through months of speculation….we finally have our new Lara Croft. Congrats to Academy Award-winner Alicia Vikander!!
MGM, Warner Bros. and GK Films are partnering up along with THE WAVE’s Roar Uthaug who has been tapped to direct the relaunch, bringing Croft to her early days as archaeologist where she would embark on her first adventure. You may remember the lovely Angelina Jolie who was Lara Croft in the 2001 Tomb Raider and the 2003 sequel Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life and she did the best she could with what she has.
This reboot will take place along side the awesome Tomb Raider game that released back in 2013. If you haven’t played it I highly suggest you play it and the 2015 sequel. Alicia Vikander is a name that’s on the rise in Hollywood and could potentially be a perfect fit for the role. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl, she was awesome in Ex-Machina and best of all she’s not an A-List actress yet.
Daisy Ridley was also rumored to be in the running for the role and could also have been a great choice, but I gotta say I’m pretty happy it’s not her. Let’s get more leading ladies in Hollywood. No need to keep using the same actresses for every action type of movie. Enough with Scarlett Johannson and Jennifer Lawrence. Daisy Ridley could easily become a part of that same problem. Now with Alicia Vikander it opens more doors!
What do you guys think about the casting?
